Lena Parnell Safety Advisor In 1997 Lena Parnell began to pursue her Journeyman Red Seal Welder ticket. She apprenticed and worked as a journeyman welder for 5 years on various project construction sites throughout Alberta ranging from building pipe supports, to welding on rock crushers, heavier welding projects such as bridge gretters, and finally working on the pipeline gaining even more experience. Lena also is very skilled at welding stainless steel and aluminum. She can weld all steels using the SMAW, TIG and GMAW styles and various positions. She has had extensive experience operating all basic steel fabrication machines. While working on many sites she was involved on safety committees and had already started to pursue safety before finally achieving her Journeyman welding ticket. Lena has worked with the Ironworkers Local 720 for companies such as Waiward Steel, Lockerbie & Hole, TransAlta, Jacobs Catalytic, and Snycrude with MSI. She had to leave her welding career to pursue a family. Her first full-time Safety Position was in a steel fabrication shop in 2003 where she built the company HSE program and moved the company towards achieving its Certificate of Recognition (COR) in 2004. Lena still remains their part-time Safety Advisor and joined the SafeTech team in 2008. She has aided several manufacturing companies with their safety programs. Her specialty is HSE field safety:
Lena‘s goal this year is to finish her required courses to become a National Certified Safety Officer with Alberta Construction Association. When Lena isn't in the field or building occupational health and safety programs, she loves to "FIGHT THE BAG" and competes in fitness model competitions.
